New Regional Website Offers Families One Stop for Information

Child Care Resource and Referral at John A Logan College is proud to announce the launch of new website designed specially for southern Illinois families. Starting August 5, 2012, information on family-friendly resources in the region can be easily accessed by the click of a mouse! The new website,, was developed in response to the increasing need of families to instantly connect to local information and helpful resources. The site includes:

  • A comprehensive and regularly updated listing of events for the southern 15 counties in Illinois
  • Links to helpful resources
  • Articles, tip sheets, and highlights about local programs and community treasures
  • Multiple blogs including features from local experts Mabel Hayes and Paul Vineyard Most, WSIU Ready to Learn, and Carbondale native Julia Longueville’s popular Hazelnut blog featuring recipes, food, and fun

In addition to these exciting features, the site will also include local business coupons and advertisements, to inform families on ways to save in the community. There will also be an option for visitors to add information and make suggestions for content. The website will also be linked with social media sites, Facebook and Twitter, to ensure that families are connected to what is happening in their community and across the region.

Child Care Resource and Referral (CCR&R) has a long and successful history of providing services to families.  When looking for an innovative way to bring more helpful information to families, CCR&R reached out to previous southern Illinois residents Sara Berkbigler and JoAnne Morse, who developed a similar website for families in the Edwardsville-Glen Carbon area.  When approached by CCR&R, Berkbigler and Morse were excited to bring their idea “back home” to a region they love, and is rich in community resources.
