Agreement Still Not Reached on Child Care Payments

Child Care Payment Update

As of Thursday May 10th an agreement had not yet been reached on bringing forward a supplemental appropriation so that child care payments can be made throughout the remainder of the fiscal year which ends in June. Once funds run out in April no addiitonal payments will be made until July.

What Can You Do?

It is critical that the General Assembly hear not only from providers whose payments will be significantly delayed, but also from parents who will lose access to child care if they do not come to a solution fast. Legislators will be in their home districts on Monday May 14th. This  would be a great day to visit or call reminding them of the importance of child care to you and your family, to all  working families and to the southern Illinois economy. They must take action so that businesses will not close and jobs will not be lost. A supplemental appropriation ( more money) is needed NOW!

Providers – please pass this message along to your parents so they know what is at stake and they can make calls to their legislators!

A child care rally is scheduled in Springfield on May 16th. Southern Illinois needs to fill the bus !! Spaces are still available.
