Betty Brock Family Child Care Scholarship

For over 18 years Betty Brock operated a licensed family child care home in Murphysboro Illinois. In that role, she inspired dozens of children, families and colleagues. Betty conducted her business, as she does her life….. with care, compassion , integrity and commitment. After her own children were raised Betty decided she was ready for a new challenge.  In 1995. she applied for, and was selected, to participate in the Illinois ChildCorps program housed at John A Logan College. For two years she learned more about the field and realized the value of her years of experience. She was anxious to share that experience and decided to pursue a new career path working for Child Care Resource and Referral at John A Logan College. Unfortunately, experience was not enough to make sure she got the position she desired, so at the age of  52, Betty decided to go back to school to her degree. Her focus and determination paid off and she graduated with an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education from John A Logan College.  Soon after, she was hired by CCR&R as their Child Care Recruitment Specialist and worked closely with area family child care associations, helping address their technical assistance and professional development needs. Through it all Betty continued her work with youth in her church and community where she has been an inspiring role model to others.

In 2009, Betty retired from CCR&R to spend more time with her family. She wasn’t gone long, and came back as a consultant, continuing her work with those so close to her heart…….family child care providers. There is no question that Betty has made a difference to those whose lives she has touched. Once you are in her heart, you are in it forever.

In 2011, because of health issues, Betty has now officially retired. She has attacked her health challenges with the same courage and determination she exhibited when she changed careers many years before. Rather than host the traditional retirement party CCR&R staff decided there is no more fitting way to honor Betty than to pass along her love of family child care and her commitment to lifelong learning. For this reason, CCR&R has established the Betty Brock Family Child Care Scholarship.
